Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board of Education sets calendar for 2003-04 In its attempts to better accommodate the schedules of families
who have children at both CCSD 180 and Hinsdale South High School,
the Burr Ridge CCSD 180 Board of Education established a 2003-04
calendar at its January 14, 2003 meeting that is as consistent
as possible with the calendar of the high school district. Major
features of the calendar are as follows: New Teachers' Workshop-August
22; Teacher Institute-August 25 and 26; First Day of School (Early
Dismissal)-August 27; Labor Day (Holiday)-September 1; Columbus
Day (Holiday)-October 13; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-October
23; Teacher Institute-October 24; Parent Conferences-November
10; Veterans' Day (Holiday)-November 11; Thanksgiving Holidays-November
27 and 28; Winter Vacation Begins (End of Day)-December 19; School
Reopens-January 5; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-January
16; Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday (Holiday)-January 19; Parent
Conferences-January 23; President's Day (Holiday)-February 16;
Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-February 26; Teacher Institute-February
27; Casimir Pulaski Day (Holiday)-March 1; Curriculum Planning

Adopted policies can be found on the school district's website at http://www.ccsd180.org/Policy/policies.html. . . . honored Mrs. Karla O'Shea for her contributions as a volunteer and active parent in the school district. . . . reviewed Anne M. Jeans Elementary School Principal Charles Accardi's report that Sprout students are working on sounds, letters, and nutrition; Sprout program received three new computers before Christmas through the Early Childhood Grant; Classroom observations were almost finished; the Art classes are working with ceramics and acrylics; and Susan Wormley and students have been invited to the Tech 2003 Conference in Springfield. . . . reviewed Burr Ridge Middle School Principal Dr. Debra LeBlanc's report that the teachers are working on reading and writing strategies in preparation for the ISAT tests; Julie Bartell gets all the credit for writing contracts with the 8th grade students monitoring their academics and behavior progress so that all students will move on to the high school; 7th grade students are at White Pines Outdoor Education camp and are all well, happy, and having a wonderful time; 5th grade DARE Graduation was January 14; Beth Frothingham, Suzi Belmonte, and Dan Holmberg are preparing for the Science Olympiad competition; Washington D.C. trip is still questionable; and Gretchen Courtney Associates will present reading strategies to the faculty at the Friday, January 17 Institute. . . . adopted the following school district policies as presented: Section 4 - Operational Services; 4:100 - Insurance Management; 4:110 Transportation; 4:120 - Food Services; 4:130 - Free and Reduced-Price Food Services; 4:140 - Waiver of Student Fees; 4:150 - Facility Management and Expansion Programs; 4:160 - Hazardous and Infectious Materials; 4:170 Safety . . . adopted the following dates for 2003 Board of Education meetings: January 14, 2003; February 11, 2003; March 18, 2003; April 8, 2003; May 20, 2003; June 17, 2003; 19, 2003; September 16, 2003; October 21, 2003; November 13, 2003; December 16, 2003. . . . adopted the CCSD 180 Seniority List for 2003 as presented. . . . tabled discussion about winter concert content until the February 11 meeting so Board members could further review the input from Advisory Council, Faculty, and other stakeholders. . . . approved a change in the by-laws of the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County (SASED) relating to selections of executive committee members and related timelines. . . . heard reports from Superintendent Rink as follows:
