Summary of January 16, 2007 Board of Education Meeting

Dr. Thomas Schneider selected as Superintendent

At its January 16, 2007 meeting, the CCSD 180 Board of Education formally approved a four-year superintendent's contract with Dr. Thomas Schneider. Schneider, 40, will assume duties on July 1, 2007. Since 2002, he has served as Superintendent at Willow Springs School District 108. Prior to that, he was Principal at Brookwood School District 167 (1998-2002), Assistant Principal at Indian Springs School District 109 (1996-1998), and a teacher and coach at Argo District 217 (1991-1996), Maywood School District 89 (1990-91), and St. Victor School, Calumet City (1989-1990). Dr. Schneider's Doctorate (2000), Master's Degree (1995), and Bachelor's Degree (1988) were earned at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He, his wife Christina, and two sons (ages 10 and 4) live in Dyer, Indiana.

In other action at its January 16 meeting, the Board . . .

. . . established a 2007-08 school year calendar that is as consistent as possible with the calendar of Hinsdale South High School. Major features of the calendar are as follows: New Teachers’ Workshop-August 17; Teacher Institute-August 20 and 21; First Day of School (Early Dismissal)-August 22; Labor Day (Holiday)-September 3; Columbus Day (Holiday)-October 8; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-October 18; Teacher Institute-October 19; Parent Conferences-November 8 in p.m. and 9 in a.m.; Thanksgiving Holidays-November 22 and 23; Winter Vacation Begins (End of Day)-December 21; School Reopens-January 7; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-January 11; Parent Conferences at BRMS-January 17 in p.m. and January 18 in a.m.; Institute/No School at AMJES-January 18; Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday (Holiday)-January 21; President's Day (Holiday)-February 18; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-February 28; Parent Conferences at AMJES-Feb. 28 in p.m. and Feb. 29 in a.m.; Teacher Institute-Feb. 29 at BRMS; Casimir Pulaski Day (Holiday)-March 3; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-March 14; Spring Vacation Begins (End of Day)-March 20; School Reopens-March 31; Good Friday (Holiday)-March 21; Memorial Day (Holiday)-May 26; Last Day of School-June 5 (May 29 if no emergency days are used.).

. . . accepted, with regret, the resignation of Board of Education member Dr. Linda Jones, with thanks to Dr. Jones for her dedicated service as a Board member and Board secretary since 1989.

. . . formally adopted the following dates for Board meetings for 2007: January 16, 2007; February 20, 2007; March 20, 2007; April 17, 2007; May 15, 2007; June 26, 2007; August 21, 2007; September 18, 2007; October 16, 2007; November 20, 2007; and December 18, 2007. Meetings are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

. . . adopted the CCSD 180 Seniority List for 2007.

. . . determined that executive session minutes from June 2006 through December 2006 were no longer in need of being confidential and, subsequently, made them available for public inspection.

. . . made its second reading and approved Burr Ridge CCSD 180 Section 7 Policies (7:220 to 7:340) – Students. Superintendent Rink indicated that Section 8, Community, is all that remains in the Board’s policy review schedule.

. . . appointed Mrs. Jenifer Mihalkanin as a Board of Education member to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Linda Jones. The position will expire immediately following the April 17, 2007 election.

. . . heard administrative reports including information from superintendent Rink about the following:

The Board’s next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of Burr Ridge CCSD #180.
