Summary of January 17, 2006 Board of Education Meeting

Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board of Education accepts donation for academic excellence opportunities

A CCSD 180 parent, whose desire was to remain anonymous, donated $2,000 to the school district at the January 17, 2006 Board of Education meeting to be used for enrichment/competition activities for students. In making the recommendation to the Board for acceptance of the donation, Superintendent Frank Rink said, “Effective schools are characterized by a commitment to academics as our main mission. That desired characteristic has been most evident during recent days as we have hosted or plan to host a district Spelling Bee, a district Geography Bee, a Readers’ Digest National World Challenge competition, and Instrumental Solo competition. This generous and gracious donation will further support our efforts to provide challenging and gratifying opportunities for our students. What happens in our classrooms provides an outstanding instructional foundation, but it is participation in these “extras for excellence” that creates lifelong memories and incentives to further excel. My thanks and congratulations to those who have sponsored/initiated these programs, to our parents for supporting and encouraging participation, to our students for their willingness to enrich their experiences at CCSD 180, and to our generous benefactors who give so much so that all of our children, no matter what their aptitudes or abilities, can and will be challenged to reach their potential.”
