Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board of Education sets calendar for 2005-06

In its attempts to better accommodate the schedules of families who have children at both CCSD 180 and Hinsdale South High School, the Burr Ridge CCSD 180 Board of Education established a 2005-06 calendar at its January 25, 2005 meeting that is as consistent as possible with the calendar of the high school district. Major features of the calendar are as follows: New Teachers’ Workshop-August 19; Teacher Institute-August 22 and 23; First Day of School (Early Dismissal)-August 24; Labor Day (Holiday)-September 5; Columbus Day (Holiday)-October 10; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-October 20; Teacher Institute-October 21; Parent Conferences-November 9 in p.m. and 10 in a.m.; Veterans' Day (Holiday)-November 11; Thanksgiving Holidays-November 24 and 25; Winter Vacation Begins (End of Day)-December 16; School Reopens-January 3; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-January 13; Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday (Holiday)-January 16; Parent Conferences-January 19 in p.m. and January 20 in a.m.; President's Day (Holiday)-February 20; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-March 2; Teacher Institute-March 3; Casimir Pulaski Day (Holiday)-March 6; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-March 17; Spring Vacation Begins (End of Day)-March 24; School Reopens-April 3; Good Friday (Holiday)-April 14; Memorial Day (Holiday)-May 29; Last Day of School-June 12 (June 5 if no emergency days are used.).

In other action, the Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board . . .

. . . employed Mr. Daniel Jaczak as 2005-06 middle school science teacher to replace retiring teacher Mr. Greg Mocek.

. . . honored Mr. Emmett Brogan for his contributions as a volunteer traffic monitor in the school district.

. . . employed teacher aides Mr. Jeff Arndt and Ms. Timeka Frazier.

. . . approved a child-care leave request submitted by Mrs. Maureen Denja.

. . . approved an after-school reading/math tutoring program for selected students at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School.

. . . learned that five candidates will be running for four Board of Education positions at the April 5, 2005 consolidated election. Candidates (in order of ballot placement) are Anne M. Tuchek, Donald D. Higgins, Jr., Louis A. Ebert, Jenifer Mihalkanin, and Renee Paladino. Incumbents Gloria Pavese and Robert Mihalkanin will not seek re-election.

. . . adopted its schedule of meetings for 2005 as follows: January 25, February 17, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 28, August 16, September 20, October 18, November 8, and December 13.

. . . heard a report by Burr Ridge Middle School Principal Dr. Debra LeBlanc about the evaluation of the 2003-04 school improvement plan and about implementation of the 2004-05 middle school improvement plan.

. . . adopted the CCSD 180 Seniority List for 2005 as presented.

. . . accepted a donation of $1,000 from LaGrange and Hinsdale Hospitals for the purchase of automated external defibrillators and thanked the hospitals and Dr. Don Higgins for their generosity and help in acquiring the AED’s.

. . . determined that executive session minutes from June 2004 through December 2004 are no longer confidential and, subsequently, made them available for public inspection.

. . . discussed information regarding probable townhouse construction near Timberlake and a change in criteria for residence at Hinsdale Lake Terrace properties.

. . . heard reports from Superintendent Rink as follows:

The Board’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room of Burr Ridge CCSD #180.
