Ridge CCSD #180 Board of Education acknowledges
undefeated Chess Champions
At its February 17, 2005 meeting, the CCSD 180 Board of Education passed
a resolution of hearty congratulations in acknowledgement of the undefeated
season of the Burr Ridge Middle School Chess Team. The Chess Team earned
the Southeast DuPage Conference Chess Championship for the second straight
year; but this time with a perfect record! The Team also won the Conference
Tournament Championship in late January. Board members remarked about
the timely nature of the undefeated season, as long-time coach Greg
Mocek will retire at the end of the 2004-05 school year. This is the
third year in a row that the team has brought home trophy hardware
(2nd in conference, 3rd in tournament in 2002-03; 1st in conference,
2nd in tournament in 2003-04).
In other action, the Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board . . .
. . . approved job-sharing proposals for the 2005-06 school year submitted by
second grade teachers Ann McVady and Kathy Dineen-Hendricks and by kindergarten
teachers Ayse Stuhr and Maureen Denja. The Board indicated sincere interest in
data relative to student achievement in these classes and will expect regular
updates about the progress of each of the approved programs.
. . . approved a request by the Burr Ridge Park District to continue its before
and after-school childcare program at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School for the
2005-06 school year.
. . . approved a request by the Burr Ridge Park District to continue its summer
day-camp program at Anne M. jeans Elementary School for the 2005-06 school year,
with some of the revenues redirected to the school district for use of facilities.
. . . due to the absence of a Capital Improvement Committee member, tabled its
discussion until March 2005 about short and long-term capital improvement plans
at CCSD 180.
. . . presented the Board’s Award of Excellence to student Jazmine Harris
for her scholarship, her citizenship, and her commitment to excellence.
. . . learned that the Foundation for Excellence will hold its second annual
Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10 mile race on Saturday, August 13, 2005 and that the
Foundation will hold a fundraising lottery during the month of April.
. . . heard a musical presentation by students Kevin Hu, Briana Deuerling, Jennifer
Pavese, Jake Milhalkain, Sarah Fazal, Brenda Hu, Jessica Vincetic and James Pavese
who, under the direction of Ms. Carol Collins, were trophy winners at the annual
BRMS Solo contest.
