Sensitive to the schedules of families who have children at
both CCSD 180 and Hinsdale South High School, the Burr Ridge
CCSD 180 Board of Education established a 2002-03 calendar at
its February 19 meeting that is as consistent as possible with
the calendar of the high school district. Major features of the
calendar are as follows: New Teachers' Workshop-August 23; Teacher
Institute-August 26 and 27; First Day of School (Early Dismissal)-August
28; Labor Day (Holiday)-September 2; Columbus Day (Holiday)-October
14; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-October 24; Teacher
Institute-October 25; Parent Conferences-November 8; Veterans'
Day (Holiday)-November 11; Thanksgiving Holidays-November 28
and 29; Winter Vacation Begins (End of Day)-December 20; School
Reopens-January 6; Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-January
17; Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday (Holiday)-January 20; Parent
Conferences-January 24; President's Day (Holiday)-February 17;
Curriculum Planning (Early Dismissal)-February 27; Teacher Institute-February

emergency days). . . . discussed the effects of early entrance into kindergarten and opted to establish chronological age as the criterion for entry, consistent with the School Code of Illinois. All students must be at least five years old on or before September 1 of the year of their entry into kindergarten. . . . honored Mrs. Brenda Cramer for her contributions to student science activities and to school beautification. . . . heard a presentation by Burr Ride Park District representative Jim Pacanowski regarding the need for a successful park district referendum in March. . . . presented awards of excellence to students Tomi Talabi, Mario Vera, Magda Janicki, Jack Middlemas, Stephanie Kramer, and Don Higgins who were "most outstanding" trophy winners at the school district's eleventh annual Solo and Ensemble Festival. The students also performed musical selections for the Board. . . . authorized installation of classroom telephones at Burr Ridge Middle School and at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School to enhance communications and promote school safety. . . . made its semi-annual review of closed session minutes and determined that executive session minutes from August 2001 through January 2002 no longer require confidentiality and, subsequently, made them available for public inspection. . . . made its scheduled review and second reading of CCSD 180 policies relative to Section 2 Board of Education, and adopted the policies. Adopted policies can be found on the school district's website at http://www.ccsd180.org/Policy/policies.html. . . . authorized expenditures for an after-school series of juggling activities for students. The activity was proposed and will be sponsored by teacher Bill Norris. . . . accepted the resignations of teachers Mrs. Christine Schaff and Mrs. Kelly Vaiciulis with thanks to the educators for their service to the children of CCSD 180. . . . offered employment as teacher aide to Ms. Julie Ashack; reassigned Mrs. Lauren Thacker as teacher aide; and added special education secretarial duties to the responsibilities of Ms. Karen Harwell. . . . heard reports from the administration including the following reports from superintendent Rink:
