Code Red procedures established at Burr Ridge CCSD 180 At its March 18 meeting, the CCSD 180 Board of Education set procedures that will be followed should Homeland Security status be elevated to Code Red. Board and staff believe the safest place for a child during a Code Red is the child's home and the next safest place is the child's school. Should Code Red status be enacted while school is not in session (evenings, early mornings, weekends, holidays), school will be closed and will not resume until government officials indicate that it is safe to return to school. Should Code Red status be enacted while students are at school, children will only be released to their parents or to the parents' designees. Students will not be allowed to walk home unattended, and bus service will not be provided. Designated staff will remain with children as long as it takes to have all children picked up by parents or designees. Provisions are being made at both schools should this procedure require an overnight stay by some children. A letter will be sent to parents regarding the procedures, and the school district will also request updated contact information. The Board thanked local law enforcement officials, Staff, and the Citizens' Advisory Council for providing suggestions for the procedures.
