Students and staff at Burr Ridge Middle School and Anne M. Jeans Elementary School will have additional facilities awaiting them at the beginning of the 2002-03 school year. At its March 19, 2002 meeting, the Burr Ridge CCSD 180 Board of Education reviewed bids for cafeteria expansion at the middle school and for two additional classrooms at the elementary school. The bid total was $918,782, a figure slightly lower than anticipated. Wight and Company will supervise construction, which will begin in April.

All students must be at least five years old on or before September 1 of the year of their entry into kindergarten. In fairness to those who had applied for early entry into kindergarten before the policy was enacted, the Board will allow those families the opportunity to participate in early entry screening procedures, proposed by the administration at the February 2002 Board of Education meeting.

. . . welcomed Marilyn Campbell, a representative of Houghton-Mifflin Company and Great Source, Inc., who presented a summary of the language arts materials chosen by the CCSD 180 textbook committee members for Board consideration. The Board approved the Great Source language arts material for grades K-8 adoption.

. . . approved a summer school four-week program starting June 17 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a tuition cost of $60.00 per student. Four teachers will be paid $1,500.00 each. Great Source Summer Success materials will be used for the program.
