CCSD 180 names “Those Who Excel” Nominees

Five individuals and one team from CCSD 180 will be honored by the Illinois State Board of Education at the 33rd Annual “Those Who Excel” awards ceremony to be conducted this coming October in Decatur, Illinois. At the April 17, 2007 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Frank Rink announced the nominees from the school district.

They are:
Ms. Connie Loda - Classroom teacher
Mrs. Wesley Gosselink - School administrator
Mrs. Lynn Moynihan - Student support personnel
Mrs. Veronica Hudson - Educational service personnel
Mrs. Gina Schroeder - Community volunteer
CCSD 180 Special Education Staff – Team

Rink said, “One of the activities at CCSD 180 that I resurrected upon my arrival in 2001 was our school district’s participation in the “Those Who Excel” Program. Effective schools are characterized by widespread rewards and recognition, and this slate of nominees is most deserving of recognition for their outstanding contributions to our students and our schools!”

Candidates complete a packet of information that includes a brief biography of the nominee, his or her philosophy of education, professional development and community involvement, and their opinions of the state’s most pressing educational needs. Letters of recommendation are also required. A committee of reviewers in Springfield will determine the awards that will be presented at the “Those Who Excel” ceremony held in October. The committee represents statewide education organizations and includes former award winners.
