of May 16, 2006 Board of Education Meeting
At its May 16, 2006 meeting, the CCSD 180 Board
of Education . . .
. . . heard from many C.C.S.D. 180 parents and community members who were
present for the public participation opportunities on the meeting agenda.
Several people addressed the board members with concerns regarding issues
such as discipline, academics, property values, test scores and their perceptions
about the Board of Education.
. . . following the reading of a letter of nomination written by Mrs. Wesley
Gosselink, Mrs. Dupont presented the Board of Education Award to Mr. Dave
Crafton and Mrs. Beverly Taylor.
. . . approved the adoption of grade 7 and 8 U.S. History textbooks, Creating
America published by McDougal Littell, at a cost of $8,104.00 per grade
level.
. . . approved a resolution of hearty congratulations for the Cast, Crew,
Directors, Parents, Staff, Community, and Volunteers for their involvement
in the production of Guys and Dolls.
. . . approved the adoption of grades K-5 mathematics textbooks, Harcourt
Math 2006 published by Harcourt School Publishers, at a cost of $43,588.96.
. . . formed a Board of Education Committee consisting of members Louis
Ebert, Renee Paladino, and Dr. Don Higgins to address future facility needs.
The committee will meet before the August 2006 Board meeting.
. . . heard a report from Principals LeBlanc and Gosselink regarding a
parent survey indicating that a more uniform dress code is desirable as
demonstrated by survey results. Principals were directed to seek student
input regarding this issue and to report to the Board at its June 27, 2006
meeting.
. . . approved the amended 2005-06 CCSD 180 school calendar that reflects
a legal 180-day school year.
. . . approved a one-time, unannounced, canine-assisted police search of
lockers and classrooms at Burr Ridge Middle School.
. . . heard a presentation by Superintendent Rink regarding the need for additional
gifted and talent enrichment services at CCSD 180, and following related discussion,
approved the employment of a full-time gifted teacher at CCSD 180.
. . . tabled, until the June 27, 2006 Board of Education meeting, action regarding
a request by CCSD 180 faculty for use of CCSD 180 facilities for a Governors
State University advanced degree program.
. . . gave authorization to Superintendent Rink to research the possibility/feasibility
of a Breakfast Program at CCSD 180. The superintendent will report at the June
27, 2006 Board of Education meeting.
. . . accepted five quotations by Atlanta Carpet and Floor Covering, Inc. for
carpet and tile replacement at Burr Ridge Middle School and Anne M. jeans Elementary
School.
. . . to accommodate the construction of a new sidewalk by the Hinsdale Lake
Terrace Apartment Complex to an alternate gated entry to Anne M. Jeans Elementary
School, accepted a quotation by Jacobs and Son, Inc. for the construction of
a new asphalt sidewalk on school grounds in the amount of $6,320.
. . . approved a half-day schedule for kindergarteners for the first seven days
of the 2006-07 school year.
. . . approved, as a member school district, SASED’s transportation contract
with Laidlaw Educational Services.
. . . heard Superintendent Rink’s reports about the following:

. . . upheld the administration’s decision to suspend several students.
. . . accepted with regret the resignation of District Secretary Mrs. Barb Foster
for purposes of retirement effective June 30, 2006.
. . . employed Ms. Michelle
Minger as Kindergarten Teacher for the 2006-07 school year.
. . . employed Mrs. Ayse Stuhr as Grade 3 Teacher for the 2006-07 school year.
. . . employed Mrs. Maureen Denja as .6 FTE Pre-Kindergarten Program Family Coordinator
for the 2006-07 school year.
The Board’s next regular meeting will be
held on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room
of Burr Ridge CCSD
