Summary of August 23, 2005 Board of Education Meeting

Sense of community at CCSD 180 strengthened by highly successful, Foundation sponsored Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10 race

At its August 23, 2005 meeting, the CCSD 180 Board of Education reviewed the successes of the August 13 Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10 Mile Race fundraiser sponsored by the district’s Foundation for Excellence. In presenting a review of the event that will generate funds for innovative and creative instructional activities within the school district, superintendent Frank Rink indicated, “A sense of community fosters within the entire school community the development of a cohesive social environment, an ‘esprit de corps.’ It promotes a sense of belonging and identity that can provide the motivation for successful involvement with our schools. The Second Annual Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10 mile race that was sponsored last week by the CCSD 180 Foundation for Excellence absolutely promotes that sense of belonging and identity. All Foundation members, volunteers, parents, staff, contributors and vendors are to be congratulated for an outstanding event. Because many of the race’s expenses were covered by generous donors and Foundation members, preliminary indications are that we earned nearly $14,000 or Foundation projects. Over 340 runners registered for the race, and we anticipate that number to increase further in 2006. It was an event to remember!”
