Summary of July 23, 2007 Board of Education Meeting
The board held a special board meeting on July 23rd with the district’s new superintendent, Dr. Thomas Schneider. Dr. Schneider’s abbreviated agenda focused on a review of the transition activities of the new superintendent with the most significant item being the approval of the alternative school site. In addition to a new superintendent, there were other new faces as Mrs. Helen Bell and Dr. Jeanette Paintsil, who were appointed at the last board meeting, participated in the special meeting.
After introductions and some discussion on the new look of the board packet and meeting schedule, the Burr Ridge CCSD #180 Board…
…heard a brief report on the very successful Xtreme run which was held on July 21st. The CCSD 180 Foundation for Excellence sponsored the event with the help of many outstanding volunteers. The efforts of the Burr Ridge Educational Foundation help to provide our teachers and staff with additional materials and supplemental student experiences.
…listened as Ann M. Jeans Principal Wesley Gosselink described the successful summer school program which was attended by Burr Ridge students in record numbers.
…met with newly hired Inspire Academy Principal Michael James. Principal James was hired at the June board meeting and has been working hard to establish the framework and philosophy of the alternative school. The alternative school will be called Inspire Academy and staff are already working on establishing the procedures for the new school.
…reviewed recent information regarding the ISAT scores as reported by the Illinois State Board of Education. It is hoped that some additional information will be made available for the August meeting. The state has informed the district that both schools have met AYP and this information was reported in local newspapers.
…read recent newspaper reports regarding Burr Ridge CCSD 180 including stories on the Xtreme run, the retirement of Dr. Rink, ISAT scores and the alternative school.
…accepted the resignation of Mrs. Terrisa Kwasneski.
… offered employment for 2007-08 to Ms. Carrie Honer (BRMS School Secretary), and Ms. Katherine Barkstrom (AMJES Elementary Teacher—3rd grade).
…approved a two-year lease agreement with Westmont School District 201 to house the new Inspire Academy program. The lease agreement with Westmont School District includes furniture and utilities.
…approved a two-year extension of transportation services with Laidlaw Education Services.
…approved an agreement with General ASP, Inc. to provide on-line employment application software.
…approved an agreement with Wight Architect to conduct a district-wide facilities review.
The Board’s next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room of Burr Ridge CCSD #180.
