Boys Track Team Conference Champions

May 16, 2012

On May 8th, the Burr Ridge Track Team, coached by Victor Hernandez, traveled to Lemont High School to compete in the SDEAA Conference Meet.  The Chieftain Boys dominated the field and running events by placing in the top three in eight of twelve events.

Some noteworthy wins came in the 4 X 100 meter relay composed of Kylen Pettis, Tobias Wells, Robert Hall, and Michael Smith who crossed the finish line in a mere fifty-one seconds!  Kylen Pettis and Michael Smith’s speed and agility helped them also capture First and Second Place, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.  These events, combined with many others awarded in the top three categories, allowed the Burr Ridge Boys Track Team to capture their first Conference Championship in the school’s history!

The Chieftain Girls also had a strong outing placing in Fourth Place in the Conference.  Some of the lady athletes that placed in the top three in field and running events were Kyla Hunter, Mauriah Harris, Essie Sanders, Emeeleta Painsil, Kyra Riley, and Imani Williams.

The success of both the boys and girls was very exciting for Burr Ridge Middle School faculty and student body alike and will be built upon for next year.  This was one exhilarating season where hard work and dedication by the athletes was met with both personal and team rewards for their efforts.  We could not be prouder of our Burr Ridge Track team of 2012. Go Chieftains!
