Negotiations Update - June 5th
June 05, 2012
Representatives from the TOP (teacher’s union) Dyann Kotansky, Candy Tumpane and TOP President Lynn Moynihan met with Board of Education President Paula Dupont and Superintendent Tom Schneider for nearly five hours on May 30th. As a result of these discussions, the Board of Education offered a compromise solution: a 3.5% increase in each of the first two years of the contract (meaning retroactive pay) and a choice between a CPI-based increase of between 2.5% and 3.75% or a guaranteed 3% increase for each of the final two years of the contract.
In exchange, district students would benefit from an additional 20 minutes of instruction at AMJES during the final two years of the contract. This offer was reduced to writing and sent to the TOP leadership on May 31st
At the end of Wednesday's meeting President Dupont and Superintendent Schneider indicated that they looked forward to a timely response and wanted to include the TOP response in the board packet for the June 4th meeting. TOP representatives were informed of the timeline in preparing this information for the Board. On the following day, at their request, the superintendent agreed to let the TOP meet during district time in the hopes that a resolution could be reached.
Once again, representatives of the TOP failed to inform the board of the results of that meeting. As the Board had not heard back from the TOP by Monday morning, June 4th, it was assumed that the TOP rejected the offer of May 31st. Subsequently, the board has rescinded its offer and all previous offers
A copy of the rescinded offer is on the web page.
