At their meeting March 23, 2026, the Board of Education named the new Anne M. Jeans Principal and created an Assistant Director for Early Childhood and Family Engagement promoting Kanisha Evans to the position for the 2026-27 school year.
Anne M. Jeans Principal: Timothy Hurd

Mr. Hurd brings over 20 years of dedicated educational experience, having served as a teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, and building principal. He is currently serving as the Principal of Highlands Elementary School.
Mr. Hurd is an accomplished instructional leader with a proven track record of school improvement. In his current role as a building principal, he successfully led his school’s improvement from a Comprehensive to a Commendable designation within one academic year through targeted instructional leadership and data-driven decision-making.
Mr. Hurd prioritizes a positive and inclusive school climate, ensuring that both students and staff experience a secure and supportive environment conducive to high levels of achievement.
In addition to his instructional leadership, Mr. Hurd has extensive experience in building operations, regulatory adherence, and community engagement. His leadership approach emphasizes strong partnerships with families and the broader community, recognizing that successful schools require collaboration and shared responsibility in supporting each child’s education. Mr. Hurd firmly believes that all students deserve access to the necessary resources and opportunities to achieve academic success.
Assistant Director of Early Childhood and Family Engagement: Ms. Kanisha Evans
Ms. Evans will be serving the district as the Assistant Director of Early Childhood and Family Engagement. Ms. Evans most recently served as the district’s District-Wide Assistant Principal and Family Community Liaison.
During her time in this role, Ms. Evans has revitalized the district Parent Teacher Organization increasing engagement with district parent as evidenced in a variety of activities from teacher appreciation days to parent-meet ups.
She also has taken on a significant role assisting with building-level administration after the sudden resignation of the AMJES Principal prior to the start of the school year. In that role, she has helped bring stability during a challenging transition period.
Ms. Evans has also worked extensively in building positive relationships with our many community partners. Ms. Evans is a graduate of Burr Ridge CCSD 180 and has been a teacher and coach for eight years in our district before taking on this new responsibility.
The creation of this position, which reports directly to the Superintendent, eliminates the District-wide Assistant Principal position and is a part of the administrative restructuring recommended by Superintendent-elect Mr. Kenndell Smith. The Board expressed their enthusiastic support for the new organization structure.
Prior to the end of the school year, both of these new administrators will be preparing for their new roles. Please join the Board in welcoming our new AMJES Principal and supporting continuing the improvement in community and parent engagement.
